Miguel Angel Rojas

Sicardi Gallery is pleased to announce that Miguel Angel Rojas will present a solo exhibition at the Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas in Madrid as part of ARCO 2015. His floor installation of gold and sand replicates a tile pattern called Córdoba; here Rojas reflects on the impact that colonial rule had on the pre-Columbian societies that valued gold as a spiritual and ritual element. The work also touches on the social contrasts between extreme wealth and tremendous poverty.

Miguel Angel Rojas's work is included in numerous international collections, including Biblioteca Luis Angel Arango del Banco de La República, Bogotá, Colombia; Daros Latinamerica Collection, Zürich, Switzerland; Fundación La Caixa, Barcelona, Spain; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey, Mexico; Museo de Arte Moderno, Bogotá, Colombia; Museo de Bellas Artes, Caracas, Venezuela; Museo Nacional, Bogotá, Colombia; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH), Houston, USA; The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, USA; and Tate Modern, London, UK.

This year marks the 34th edition of ARCO Madrid, the international fair of contemporary art. Since 1996, ARCO has dedicated its programming to a specific invited country. In 2015, the invited country is Colombia.
