Sicardi Ayers Bacino is pleased to announce Jorinde Voigt: Trust and Rain, the artist's second solo exhibition at the gallery. Working across collage, montage on mirror, pastel, and gold leaf, Voigt explores processes of inner perception as they relate to affect and emotion, imagination, memory, sensory experience, natural and cultural phenomena, scientific data, philosophical concepts, and interpersonal relationships.

Trust and Rain brings together works made between 2012 and 2023. Liebe als Passion XIV (2013) alludes to Niklas Luhmann's book Love as Passion: The Codification of Intimacy (1982), which Voigt used as an occasion to visualize processes of spontaneous image-finding, asking herself: "What kind of territories of the imagination are being constructed? Which images are being communicated? Which mental images are being evoked in me?" Trust and Rain in June II (2020–21), by contrast, is quintessentially Voigt — oneiric, scientific, rhythmic, and recursive, depicting biomorphic structures, or perhaps microscopic plastic debris, adrift in a greenish pictorial space. Who, or what, should we trust?
Jorinde Voigt is a leading conceptual artist based in Berlin. Born in 1977 in Frankfurt am Main, she studied with Katharina Sieverding at the Universität der Künste, Berlin, earning a Master of Fine Arts in 2004. From 2014 to 2019, she taught at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste (AdBK) in Munich; she is currently Professor of Conceptual Drawing and Painting at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg (HfBK).
Among her many grants and prize nominations — including the Zurich Art Prize in 2021 — Voigt received the prestigious Daniel & Florence Guerlain Contemporary Drawing Prize in 2012. She has participated in biennials worldwide, notably the 54th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia (2011); Manifesta 11, Zurich, Switzerland (2016); Biennale de Lyon, Lyon, France (2017); Sharjah Biennial, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (2017); and Vienna Biennial for Change, Vienna, Austria (2019).
Recent solo exhibitions of her work have been presented at Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien, Vienna, Austria (2020); BOZAR, Centre for Fine Arts, Brussels, Belgium (2020); The Menil Collection, Houston, Texas (2019); Horst Janssen-Museum, Oldenburg, Germany (2019); Kunsthalle Nürnberg, Nuremberg, Germany (2017); Hamburger Bahnhof Museum für Gegenwart, Berlin, Germany (2016); Kunsthalle Krems, Krems, Austria (2015); Museo d'Arte Contemporanea, Rome, Italy (2014); the Langen Foundation, Neuss, Germany (2013); and Gemeentemuseum, Den Haag, The Netherlands (2010).
