Description

Named one of Dance Magazine's Top 25 Dancers to Watch in 2014, Laura Gutierrez will perform a program of new work titled Laura Elena Gutierrez (1987); 64 x 61 1/2 in. at Sicardi Gallery on Tuesday, May 26 and Wednesday, May 27 at 7 pm. The choreography draws from the themes and ideas of the exhibition Líneas de la mano.

 

Gutierrez is a graduate of the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, and she received a BFA in Contemporary Dance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Since then, she has performed at The Menil Collection, Houston; Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston; The Fabric Workshop Museum, Philadelphia; and SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah. Her choreography has been seen at Lincoln Center Institutes, Clark Studio Theatre, Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center, Dance Source Houston's The Barn, Triskelion Arts, and Nicole Longnecker Gallery. Since 2012, she has performed regularly in works by Jonah Boaker.
